Vila de Frades fica apenas a 2 km da Vidigueira, situada no extremo noroeste do município. As duas localidades estão separadas pela ribeira do Freixo, que nasce na serra do Mendro e segue para sul, até à ribeira de Ordearce. Esta é a freguesia mais pequena do concelho, com 25,82 km2 de extensão e 942 habitantes, segundo os censos de 2011.

Dentro dos limites da freguesia pode encontrar-se um dos marcos históricos mais importantes da região, as ruínas de S. Cucufate.
Antiga villa romana que revela vestígios de uma primeira ocupação no Neolítico final e sofreu transformações diversas ao longo dos séculos. Na época medieval, a ocupação religiosa transformou a villa romana num convento, em honra de S. Cucufate, o santo padroeiro que lhe deu o nome.

Foi vila e sede de concelho independente até 1854. Era constituído apenas pela freguesia da sede e tinha, em 1801, 1 256 habitantes. Em 1836, integrou também a freguesia de Vila Alva. Tinha, em 1849, 2 877 habitantes. Com a sua extinção, Vila de Frades foi integrada no concelho da Vidigueira, enquanto Vila Alva foi integrada no de Cuba.

Vila de Frades, assim como as vizinhas Vidigueira e Vila Alva, são terras de pequenos agricultores, com uma divisão fundiária única no Alentejo, pelo seu fraccionamento, girando a economia agrícola destas explorações em torno da vinha e do olival.

Friars Village is just 2 km Vidígueira, located in the extreme northwest of the city. The two locations are separated by the Ash river, which rises in the Serra do Mendro and continues south to the creek Ordearce. This is the smallest parish in the county, with 25.82 km2 of extension and 942 inhabitants, according to the 2011 census.

Within the limits of the parish may find yourself one of the greatest landmarks of the area, the ruins of S. Cucufate.
Ancient Roman villa which reveals traces of a first occupation in the late Neolithic and underwent several transformations over the centuries. In medieval times, the religious occupation transformed the Roman villa in a convent in honor of St. Cucufate, the patron saint who gave him the name.

Village and was the county seat until 1854 regardless. Consisted only of the parish seat and had, in 1801, 1256 inhabitants. In 1836, he joined also the parish of Alva. Had, in 1849, 2877 inhabitants. With its extinction, Friars Village was built in the county Vidígueira while Alva was built in Cuba.

Friars Village, as well as the neighboring Vidigueira and Alva are lands of small farmers with a land division only in Alentejo, by fracturing, turning the agricultural economy of these explorations around the vineyards and olive groves.
