Santarém
The city of Santarém has mystical origins, more properly Greco-Roman and Christian. The earliest traces of human presence refer to the century. VIII BC During the period of Roman colonization in the city, it became the main commercial hub of the Middle Tagus and one of the most important administrative centers of the province Lusitana.
After the invasion of the Vandals and Alans, the city was renamed to Saint Irene. In 715 it was conquered by Count D. Henry, and in 1110 returned to the possession of the Moors until D Afonso Henriques conquered it definitively.
